PHILL : LEAD VOCALS

Phill started singing in the St George Brandon Hill choir in the early 70's and continued into school bands Black Velvet and The Trykes.
"We were part of the Clifton music scene, which, back then was very active and several local bands went on to get deals" he remembers. "We did our share of school gigs at places like Ashton Park and Colston Girls schools, as well as playing local venues like the Green Rooms on King Street, the Granary, and church halls, it was a great time to be in a band."
It was at this time he sung "Children of the grave" with Ozzy Osbourne and heroes Black Sabbath at the Colston Hall after being pulled from the crowd by Ozzy!!! Bitten by the bug He continued on into the 80's during his time in the Army performing on the mess circuits and clubs in Germany and Holland. He sang with his band "Chevron" at the Dortmund Westfallenhalle on the same bill as the Scorpions.
Phill has recorded various material, and his latest works have been a tribute album to the music of Roger Waters and Pink Floyd called "A Fleeting Glimpse."
After a long hiatus, Phill has returned to live singing with the RiffToads and is enjoying every minute! "I have a great admiration for all front men" he says, "You are generally the focus of attention and must always look like you're into everything and having a great time, even though you might have a thumping headache or virtually no monitor sound!"
His influences range from all things heavy through to Pink Floyd, Purple and Paul Rogers, right into more melodic and 70's disco which he hated as a teenager! A massive Queen fan, he still counts their live shows as some of the best he's seen, along with the Eagles and Alice Cooper.
Phill uses Shure wireless mics and monitoring systems, ultimate and custom mic stands, and a black cowbell. He has recently taken delivery of an illuminated tambourine Malcolm bought him for Christmas!!!
"How cool is that?? All the women seem to want to nick it!!"
